Level 3 Award in Health and Safety for Supervisors in the Workplace - 4 day course

Who is it for?

This qualification is aimed at supervisors who are required to ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation. Supervisors should feel able, on the completion of the qualification, to design, implement and monitor a health and safety programme within a small to medium sized organisation having moderate risks.

Course content

· Unit HSS1: Safety in the Working Environment

o Discuss the importance of supervision with regard to Health and Safety in the workplace.

o Evaluate hazards and risks in the workplace and their possible effects.

o Determine hazards and risks likely to affect the occupational health of individuals.

· Unit HSS2: Safe Working Procedures

o Identify hazards to Health and Safety.

o Assess risks to Health and Safety in the workplace.

o Discuss the requirements of safe systems of work.

Pre-requisites

It is recommended that candidates already possess a qualification in Health and Safety at Level 2 prior to commencing this qualification.

Assessment /Grading

Unit HSS1: Safety in the Working Environment

Attainment of the Learning Outcomes for this unit will be assessed by an examination. This will be of two hours duration and will consist of thirty short answer questions.

Unit HSS2: Safe Working Procedures

Attainment of the Learning Outcomes for this unit will be assessed by a coursework assignment. The assignment will be a scenario provided by RSPH Qualifications. Candidates will have to identify a number of possible health and safety hazards in the scenario. Candidates must then produce risk assessments for three of the hazards and devise safe systems of work with respect of these three hazards.

Qualification

The qualification will be awarded to any candidate who attains the learning outcomes for both units of the qualification. Candidates who attain a Distinction grade for both units will be awarded a Distinction for the qualification.
